Project Overview

The existing door at 3M in London Ontario had a regular jackshaft operator and was very slow. Consequently, the jackshaft had opening speeds of 8″ per second. Furthermore, employees were using the overhead door as a pedestrian door. Thus wasting both time and energy as the door would need to fully open and close every time. Finally, the area was also very dark from the solid design of the door.

To solve all of 3M’s problems, Northern Dock Systems installed a unique polycarbonate door. This polycarbonate door had a built-in pedestrian door complete with a springless safedrive operator.

As a result, door speeds were increased to 24″ per second. That is triple the speed that it was before. Additionally, the pedestrian door sped up time for employees to enter and exit the building along with saving energy. Furthermore, the polycarbonate door lets in natural light into the facility. So it brights up the once dark area.
