Project Overview
The old mechanical dock had failed and had caused an injury at this manufacturing plant in Calgary. Furthermore, the dock bumper was missing and the concrete was crumbling around the missing bumper. In order to prevent injuries and eliminate any health and safety concerns they reached out to Northern Dock Systems to replace their dock.
Easy to Use and Lower Maintenance
We replaced the mechanical dock with an easier to use and lower maintenance Blue Giant Hydraulic Dock Leveler. Hydraulic dock levelers are easier and safer because they just require a push of a button, rather than having employees bent over and pull the chain to engage the dock or walk it down.
Furthermore, hydraulic dock levelers are estimated to save up to 91% of maintenance costs when compared to a mechanical dock over a 10 year period. Hydraulic dock levelers have no springs, hold-down mechanisms or other high wearable parts that mechanical dock levelers have. Therefore they are less likely to break down and need repairs.
Before the dock could be replaced, our technician needed to clean the pit and repair the curb angle that had been damaged. Also, a transition plate was added to cover the concrete to prevent further damage.
Steel Face Dock Bumpers to Dock Levelers
Finally, Steel Face Dock Bumpers were added to protect their new dock leveler and from any damage from back up trucks. teel face dock bumpers have a floating steel faceplate that extends the bumper’s lifespan. They can withstand frequent impacts in heavy traffic situations.
