Project Overview
Old and Unsafe Lift Table
The lift tables at this Toronto pharmaceutical facility were old, rusted and starting to fail The lips on each of the lift tables were not hydraulic or spring-assisted, so it was a health and safety concern for the employees who had to lift and lower the heavy lips each time the lift table was used. In addition, the lift tables were also flagged as a safety issue with old railings that were shaky and in overall deteriorating condition.
Dim Lights and Deteriorating Dock Seals
Furthermore, the dock light was an incandescent bulb and not very bright enough to light up the entire trailer. Additionally, the dock seals around these openings were old and starting to leak rain into the building.
Upgrading a Dangerous Dock Area for Safety and Efficiency
After recognizing the urgent need for an upgrade, the team contacted to Northern Dock Systems, a leader in providing top-notch dock equipment and safety solutions. Northern Dock Systems assessed the site and recommended a complete overhaul of the dock area, addressing both safety and operational concerns.
Dock Lift Table Upgraded
The old, rusty lift tables were replaced with spring-assisted Blue Giant Stationary Dock Lifts. The new lift tables featured a spring-assisted lip that provided easier and safer operation, minimizing physical strain and reducing the risk of injury. The non-slip powder-coated decks provided added safety, even in wet or slippery conditions and the overall durability ensured longer life cycles.
The railings, which had been shaky and unstable, were replaced with a new and secure design that was firmly attached to the lift tables. These improvements enhanced the safety of workers, preventing accidental falls or injuries while using the lift tables.
To further improve safety and prevent debris, limbs or obstacles from entering underneath the lifts, accordion skirting was installed around the lift tables. This added a layer of protection while keeping the workspace clean and orderly.
New Dock Seals
The aging dock seals were replaced with new and high-performance Blue Giant Head Curtain Dock Seals (BG200) that created a tighter seal around trailers, ensuring that rainwater no longer leaked into the building. These new seals enhanced energy efficiency by keeping the building insulated and protected from the elements.
Upgraded to LED Dock Lights
The outdated and dim incandescent lights were replaced with bright and energy-efficient LED Versa Lights. Not only did the new lights provide much better illumination, improving visibility and safety, but the shatter-proof bulbs also offered increased durability, ensuring that the lights would withstand the rigours of a busy environment.
A Safer and Brighter Loading Dock Area
Workers now have safer and more efficient equipment. As a result, the entire dock area is better protected from weather and wear. The pharmaceutical facility saw a significant reduction in safety risks, improved operational efficiency and a longer lifespan for equipment, thanks to the expert solutions provided by Northern Dock Systems. This project is a perfect example of how strategic upgrades can enhance both safety and productivity in the workplace.
