Before Air Curtain
After Air Curtain
Project Overview
Ed’s Concrete Products Ltd in Stratford Ontario had four large overhead door openings that would be frequently opened throughout the year. As a result, from October to April cold air would fill the building each time these doors would regularly open. Therefore employee comfort was a problem, as they would constantly complain about the cold during the cooler months. Additionally, because of re-heat time, this warehouse had high energy costs during the heating months.
Seal Up Large Door Openings with Air Curtains
To save on energy and improve employee comfort Northern Dock Systems installed four air curtains to seal these openings:
- IDC20 for 25’ x 22’ Tandem Mount Air Curtain for large door openings.
- IDC20 for 22’ x 20’ Tandem Mount Air Curtain for large door openings.
- IDC16 for 14’ x 14’ Vertical Air Curtain for low headroom spaces.
- IDC20 for 18’ x 13’ Vertical Air Curtain for low headroom spaces.
Vertical Air for Low Headroom Spaces
Engineered for Durability
For this project, our team needed to work with an engineer to design a custom steel frame to support the tandem air curtains on the prefabricated structure.
Energy Savings with Air Curtains
With the new air curtains installed, this Stratford warehouse can expect them to seal out 90% of the cold air to keep employees comfortable while saving 15 units of energy for every 1 unit consumed. In addition, we worked with their local utility company, to get them a one-time energy rebate of $31,000 for the four air curtains.
