Project Overview

Old Wooden Door & Broken Air Bag Dock Shelter

In a busy Whitby warehouse, there were many problems with their door and dock shelter setup. The old seals weren’t sealing well, causing issues and letting in drafts. The inflatable top header airbag kept breaking, leading to more repairs and downtime. Additionally, the old wooden overhead door was letting in cold air, making the inside uncomfortable and less energy-efficient.

New Dock Shelters – HingeMaster Extreme

The Whitby warehouse knew they needed to make things better. They contacted Northern Dock Systems to improve their loading dock and door setup. We replaced the old seals with new Blue Giant HingeMaster Extreme Dock Shelters.

These new dock shelters:

  • Create a tight seal around trailers without airbags, making everything more efficient and reducing the need for repairs.
  • It’s tough and durable vinyl withstands heavy use in this warehouse.
  • It’s strong steel frame with snow load supports can withstand tough Canadian winters, making it perfect for the warehouse.
  • The J-hooks provide a zero-daylight seal around the hinge gaps that barn-style trailer doors create.
  • Built-in Rain Shroud diverts water and snow away with a galvanized head frame and foam wiper blade.

Dock Shelter Installation

The shelter installation was done thoroughly. After disposing of the old inflatable dock shelters, Hingemaster Extreme shelters were installed on docks 2 and 3. The team made sure the shelters were sealed against the corrugated siding wall, using spray foam and caulking to get a perfect fit.

New Door – Insulated Steel Sectional Door

Only position 3 still had a wooden door, which was letting in cold air. Our technicians installed a new Insulated Sectional Steel Overhead Door (150), which blocked the cold air and improved the inside climate, saving energy. The overhead door had brown finished panels on the outside and one Lexan window centered in the third section to match the other door at position 2. Our technicians were able to reuse and reconnect the existing jackshaft motor to the new door.

We are proud of our work, knowing we have improved this Whitby warehouse’s operations and provided better protection against the weather. This success story shows our technicians’ hard work and dedication, making the warehouse ready for future challenges.
