Project Overview
The parking garage doors at The Hospital For Sick Children in Toronto had been hit several times. Even though these rubber doors can easily be reset after a hit, even the smallest amount of downtime was an issue for this busy parking garage. Additionally, the constant impacts from cars could cause issues for the doors in the future.
The reason why the doors were constantly being hit was because there was no visibility when the door was fully open. Once the door opened beyond the driver’s line of sight, they would think that the door was open and proceed forward. As a result, they would hit the bottom bar of the door when entering the parking lot.
Northern Dock Systems, added LED Lite-Advance Door Monitoring Lights to these parking garage rubber doors. The door monitoring lights are on the sides of the door so they are always in view for drivers. The lights are red when the door is not fully open. The lights only turn green once the door is fully open.
Furthermore, because the door monitoring lights were installed along the sides of the door opening, they light up the whole opening.
Finally, we designed custom signage to tell the parking garage patrons to proceed on green only.
With the new door monitoring lights and signage, these parking garage doors are no longer being hit by drivers.
