Project Overview
During a routine preventive maintenance inspection of the overhead doors at the Lowe’s location in Edmonton, our technician was able to catch potential safety hazards.
At one of the overhead shipping doors, there were multiple frayed cables. If this cable was to snap, it could send the door crashing down and potentially harm someone. Furthermore, this same door had missing bumper springs. Bumper springs are essential to the operation of the door as without these springs the door could get stuck in the open position.
In addition to completing the normal tasks of a preventive maintenance inspection our technician:
- Installed missing bumper springs
- Lowered and byscripted door
- Back winded spring
- Removed frayed cables
- Made and installed new cables
- Added tension to balance door
- Reset limits and tested operation
As a result, the technician was able to prevent a future door failure, which could have lead to an accident and costly downtime.
