A Customer Success Story from Northern Dock Systems

Project Overview

Frequently Hit Sectional Door

This high-traffic interior door is an integral part of Griffith’s pest prevention strategy. Due to the tight space and high traffic in the area, the existing sectional door was often impacted by forklifts. As a result, the building was left open to pests and increased the need for unnecessary service repairs.

Replacing with a High-Speed Fabric Door

After consulting with Northern Dock Systems, it was determined that replacing the door is a better investment than continuing to bear repair costs. The return on investment for replacing the door versus repair costs alone would be approximately two years. Additionally, replacing it with a new Hormann Speed-Commander 1400 SEL high-speed fabric roll-up door would improve building security by reducing pest and rodent entry. The Speed-Commander high-speed fabric door is 5 times faster than sectional doors, with opening speeds of up to 80” per second. This makes them less likely to be hit, reduces the time the door is left open and effectively seals the area against pests.

Improved Safety

Moreover, the Speed-Commander fabric door features a large window for increased visibility so workers can see what is on the other side of the door before it opens. In addition, The LZR Widescan laser sensors provide protection by preventing the door from accidentally closing on forklifts and pedestrians.

Virtual Pull Cord

While the virtual pull cord option, makes the forklifts need to come to a full stop in a designated spot before the door opens. Racing the door is a common issue with high-speed doors, which can lead to accidental impacts. By adding the virtual pull cord, it forces drivers to stop to activate the door. Furthermore, it reduces accidental openings from triggering which are opportunities for pest infiltration.

LITE-Advance Door Monitoring Lights

Finally, the Lite-Advance Door Monitoring Lights were added to both sides of the door. These lights turn from red to green once the door is fully open and when it’s safe to proceed. Additionally, they pre-announce when the door is about to close by flashing red to warn everyone nearby.
