Some vandals were breaking into a parking garage located in Ottawa. As a result, they were causing damage to the cars and property of the building. The old grills that were installed in the garage were not reliable enough to provide the level of security that was necessary for a busy downtown parkade.

To solve this problem, the garage owners approached Northern Dock Systems for a solution that would increase the security of the garage and cope with the high volume of vehicles that come in and out of the parkade every day. After analyzing the situation, we decided that the Hormann Steel Ranger Insulated High-Speed Rolling Steel Door was the best option to keep the property and vehicles safe from vandals.
The Steel Ranger door has a high-speed operation that allows the door to close seconds after the vehicle passes through the opening. It has a 45” per second opening speed and 20” per second closing speed, providing both reliability and performance.
The Steel Ranger door is also equipped with an 8’ light curtain that acts as a continuous safety device to prevent vehicle impact. If a beam is interrupted, the door will automatically reverse to protect people, vehicles, and products from making contact with the door. In addition, noise-reduction pads are installed on the back of the insulated slats for a quiet operation.
Finally, to ensure that revenue is collected each time a vehicle enters the garage, the controls have been integrated with the parking pay kiosk.
