Project Specs: Printing/Distribution Centre (250,000 sq/ft)
Products: Stealth High Speed Operators with Pillow Block Bearings
Services: Equipment Installation, Electrical Services, Project Management
THEIR OBJECTIVE
Constantly loading and unloading delivery vehicles all day was causing a massive loss of heat in the facility and exposing employees to external temperatures.
This local community newspaper relies on the overhead doors to open/close over 125 times a day. The previous operator only provided a speed of 8 inches per second which caused a lengthy cycle allowing temperatures to be lost.
Additionally, due to the high use, the door was subject to damage from vehicles hitting when moving through the doorway.
OUR SOLUTION
By retrofitting the 14’x 14’ door with a high-speed operator, the door speeds were now able to travel up to 26 inches per second. This rapid improvement increased the door speed to save an estimated $6,090 (20,302 m3) each year in natural gas. This is energy that would have been lost before.
* Speeds are based on door performance before and after installation. Operator performance is influenced by door weight, components and models.
With the increased speeds, the door has not been hit, employees are not exposed to outdoor elements and the project will pay for itself in the first year (0.68 years).
