A Customer Success Story from Northern Dock Systems

University of Toronto Fire Shutters Cornell ERC-10 Alarmgard Tube Motor Lab

Project Overview

Northern Dock Systems Construction Department was awarded the contract to supply and install of eighteen (18) Cornell Model ERC-10 Fire Shutters as part of the University of Toronto’s Lab Renovations in the Rosebrugh Building.

To complete this project we worked directly with the University of Toronto, Rosebrugh Building (End User) and Marant Construction Ltd. (General Contractor) to make sure that the renovation went smoothly.

These particular fire shutters are 3/4 hour fire label ULC to suit the lab’s needs. However, other models can go up to a 3 hour fire rating, depending on your specific requirements. At the first sign of smoke or fire, the rolling steel fire shutters will safely and reliably drop to prevent the spread.

Additionally, these fire shutters came with a key switch with a stop button and Alarmgard Tube Motor with a chain hoist for easy operation. Along with a Spectrashield powder coating finish to match the colour of the wall.

After completing the installation, our technicians completed three fire door drop tests on each of the eighteen fire shutters following DASMA guidelines. This was to make sure the doors would drop smoothly if the fire alarm system is activated.

The newly renovated lab is now safe and fully protected in the event of a fire with its new failsafe fire shutters.
